UK retail giant Tesco is to begin offering its own degree qualification in retail management.
The new programme will cover topics like the art of display design, special offers, efficient pricing and shelf stacking. Tesco's decision comes just a few months after the UK exams watchdog, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), gave the go ahead for similar qualifications to be offered by Network Rail, Flybe and McDonald's.
"Retail has had an image of attracting people are not much interested in going to university," said Derek Longhurst, director of Foundation Degree Forward, the body promoting the qualifications. "This is one way we can change that perception."
The course will be taught by a combination of hands on practicals, online projects and some days of lectures.
The two-year degree could become the standard national qualification for supermarket managers.
